Why do we plant trees in the environment?

Trees help clean the air we breathe in the environment, filter the water we drink and provide habitat to most global biodiversity. Trees are ingredients for essential medicines and absorb harmful carbon. Below are the four main reasons why trees are vital.

Water

Trees capture rainwater and reduce the risks of flooding in the environment. According to the United Nations Fod and Agriculture Association, a mature tree can intercept more than 15,000 litres of water every year.

Air

Trees help to clean up the air we breathe. Trees act as carbon sinks and reduce the effects of climate change.

Biodiversity

A tree can be a home to species of insect, fungi, moss, mammals and plants.

Climate

Trees help to reduce the ambient temperature by sorting harmful greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen back into the atmosphere.
